House Republicans trying to redefine rape

Via MoveOn.org:

“A far-reaching anti-choice bill, introduced by Republican Chris Smith and supported by 173 members of the House, includes a provision that could redefine rape and set women’s rights back by decades.

Right now, federal dollars can’t be used for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the woman’s life is in danger. But the Smith bill would narrow that use to “cases of ‘forcible’ rape but not statutory or coerced rape.”

As far too many women know, bruises and broken bones do not define rape – a lack of consent does.”

In-depth coverage by CBS, here.  No big shock, but my own asshole representative, Cathy McMorris-Rogers is a co-sponsor.  Full list of co-sponsors here.
Stand up for what is right. E-mail, call and visit your Representatives today, to tell them that the “unintended” consequences of this bill set women’s rights back decades by seeking to redefine rape.

  1. ever hear of a redundant term?

No one is trying to redefine rape but those fine DNC journalists at MSNBC.

And this bill is not “anti-choice”, it is a bill to help prevent those Americans with morals to not have to pay for murder. If you want to murder an unborn baby, do it with your own money.

    • So, mcoville, rape victims are, by your definition, *not* “Americans with morals”, but people who want to redefine rape to further their political agenda *are* “moral”?

Funny how you conveniently ignored the real point of the post and latched on to a single word, in a quote.

      • No, I do not think it is moral to murder a developing baby. Do you?

You never explained how the Republicans where trying to “redefine” rape. I have read the proposed bill (have you?) and I did not see anywhere in that legislation that tried to redefine rape. The only people that are using this bill to redefine rape are the left-wing nutjobs.

        • Did you fail to read my post, or are you just trying a childish evasion? Try reading it again.

Apparently, you also did not read the original bill, either. You also might want to actually read the coverage at the links I provided, before commenting.

So CBS News are *left-wing nutjobs???
          ROTFL!
